Open Source Initiative

(Official Logo)
The Open Source Initiative, also known as OSI, is an organization that does not gain profit which promotes the integrity of the open source. This means that a product has been certified with the OSI Certified Open Source Software mark. Here is a link to the official page about the Open Source Initiative: http://opensource.org/ This is a group of board members and OSI is a directorship organization, not a membership one. In this case of a program having this license, a source code is available so that the general public (anyone) can use and change the source from it's original design without needing to pay.  Usually a lot of people collaborate into creating an open source code. Programmers must improve the code and share the changes that have been made within the community. Open source came to be because it was a way of responding to software that private corporations owned.
