The RCA
Its name comes from "Radio Corporation of America" and, also known as a phono (phonograph) or cinch connector, is an electronic connector whose function is to transfer audio and video signals. They are color-coded usually with white, red (which transport left and right audio) and yellow which is for the video. When a high-end camera and audio recorder have the option of transferring through all three channels, the quality is higher. They transmit analog (non-digital) signals, and are not only used with camcorders but with TVs also.
FireWire
The official name is IEEE 1394 and it serves to "to connect different pieces of equipment so they can easily and quickly share information" (Tyson, Layton). It was first created by Apple in 1995 but then in that same year it became a universal networking standard. It is most commonly used to connect video recorders to computers but it can also be used to connect a computer to another computer. In many occasions it is compared to the USB due to its similarity. One advantage of using it is that is comes at a low cost.
Thunderbolt
"Thunderbolt technology is the fastest way to transfer data between a PC and peripheral and display devices. At 10 Gbps, Thunderbolt™ technology delivers great responsiveness with data and display transfers – in each direction, at the same time – using a single cable to connect devices in a daisy chain." That's how the official webpage describes the product. The creation by Intel concentrates mostly on speed and user-friendliness and from the collaboration of Apple, it is able to transfer a full HD movie in less than 30 seconds. (10 Gbps). It transfers video, audio, images and other medio from/to your PC to/from devices such as phones, iPods (mp3 players)... For more information watch the video at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xcheaef1Gi8#t=49.
USB (2.0, 3.0)
Probably the most It stands for "Universal Serial Bus" and is a port used to connect peripheral devices (mice, video connectors, memory sticks...) USB 2.0 and 3.0 are used in the same way and are compatible with each other but 3.0 is newer and is claimed to work 10 times faster than the previous model.

Adobe Premiere Pro Description
The editing
program I am going to use for this unit is going to be Adobe Premiere Pro CS6. Adobe
premiere was first launched for Mac in 1991 but in 2003, it was redesigned and
names Premiere Pro. It may be used by people who edit videos as a hobby as well
as by professionals (one example of a movie edited with this program is “Act of
Valor”)
The Tools:
This program has the standard tools to edit as many other programs (a good
equivalent is FinalCut) have. These include the track selector, the ripple edit
tool, the rolling edit tool and the rate stretch tool. Personally, the ones I
use the most are the selector, the track selector and the cutting tool.
One
advantage to using Premiere is that you can use it together with the other
Adobe programs very efficiently. Some of these are Photoshop, Encore and AfterEffects.

Questions on Blogs
-What is a blog? A blog is a public personal journal on the Web. Blogs are usually displayed in reverse chronological order to the reader and in a journal or log format.
-
What's the difference between a blog and a webpage? Webpage: A lot of information and download things. Blog: Interact with the public and receive comments. Updated more frequently than webpages. More personal.
-
What are the advantages of using a blog? Blogs are more personal and the person who writes it can be closer to the public audience whther it is by their opinion about the information displayed or contributions they make in the comments section.
-
What is the origin of the word blog? G. Raikundalia and M. Rees were the first to use the term blog in a paper called "Exploiting the World-Wide Web for Electronic Meeting Document Analysis and Management." Jorn Barger defined weblog as logging the Web. In 1999 Peter Merholz shortened the term to blog.
-
What does blogosphere mean? It means the community of blogs, all the blogs and the "world of blogs".
-
What do you call someone who blogs? A blogger.
-
What do you have to do if you want to write a blog? Create an account with your email. Then you have to update the blog with new posts. There are many free blogging services you can use to create your blog: AOL Hometown / AOL Journals (America Online, Inc.), Blog.com (Blog.com Inc.), Blogger (Google), LiveJournal (Six Apart), MySpace (News Corporation), Open Diary (The Open Diary), Windows Live Spaces / MSN Spaces (Microsoft).
-
Do you need a special program on a computer to write blogs? You need some HTML knowledge and a place to host the Weblog.- -When were blogs first created? In the decade of the 2000. When the web 2.0 was developed you were able to write INTO the internet. These were called web logs > blogs. Google then adapted a blogging service called Bloger. It is one of the major features that Google has.
-What is the meaning of blog? It is a play on the words web and log since it is a journal on the internet.

Moodle
-What is moodle? Moodle is a project designed to give education tools to promote learning. It is a plaform that teachers can use to extend their teaching outside of the classroom.
-What does moodle stand for? Moodle is an acronym that stands for "Modular Object-Orinted Dynamic Learning Environment"
-Is it a web site, a blog, a wiki, a social network? Explain... It is a free software e-learning platform which in other words can be defined as a Learning Management System or a Virtual Learning Environment. It is sort of a combination of all of the above.
-What is it used for and why is that? It is used to extendend education out of the classroom by both teachers and students. teachers can post news, assignments, important documents, and also design online quizzes for the students. It is used for all this and much more because it is easy to access, and it is a community project that all students in a class(school/club can use).
-Name 5 different features of moodle. 1.Moodle Calendar 2.Messaging 3.Forum 4.File submission 5.File downloads
-If I say that moodle is under a GNU license, what do I mean? It means that Moodle has a copyleft liscense for software. It is free and a General Public License. This means that only administrators can edit the content on it but that everyone enrolled in the courses can use it.
-What is the difference between GNU and Unix. Unix has copyright and GNU doesn't but Unix doesn't cover as much software as GNU does.
-What is a general public license? It's acronym is GPL and it is a license that an open source software has and allows it and its source code to be copied, distributed and modified for free. It is usually used with GNU.
-How do you use moodle? I use moosdle as an extra tool in my learning. I use it whenever we have assignments posted there and also to study for tests since there are additional webpages and videos that help. I also use the calendar to stay organized.
-Assess Moodle, give it a rating. I think that moodle is a great tool to use in education. If I had to give it a rating it would probably be 8.5/10. It is excellent if you forget books or to remind you of assignments. Also, we don't need to carry heavy backpacks because of it. Even though sometimes there are problems with either enrolling students or that certain documents aren't always visible to everyone, it is definetly something I would recomend that every school get since it makes learning easier and more accessible.

Operating Systems
OPERATING SYSTEMS QUESTIONS
-What's an operating system? It is the most important program in a computer that allows the computer to run other programs. It obeys commands from the keyboard or mouse and desplays information on the screen. It also takes a large part in organizing files and it controlls peripheral devices. It is also responsible programs not inerfering with each other and the computer's security against viruses. For more information or other definitions on technological terms, webopedia is a very good site. Check it out here: http://www.webopedia.com/
-What is the difference between an OS, an application and an app? an OS is short for operating system which unlike an application is the program that runs other. An application is installed into the OS and has a much simpler interaction with the computer than an OS. And an app is just an abbreviation for application.
-What are the main operating systems in the world? (With description)
Linux: it is based on Unix and can be installed on practically any device that can take an OS.It includes Linux kernel and a few popular distributions are Ubuntu and Fedora.
Windows: Specifically for personal computers (90% of the world's personal computers use it).
Chrome: Used in netbook and mobile devices and is built on the Linux kernel. Originates from the Google Chrome web Browser.
Firefox: Mostly used for mobile devices (cell phones or tablets) and mostly for accessing the web. It's based on the Linux operating system.
Mac: It has many versions (X, XLion, XLeopard, XSnowLeopard, XMountain Lion...). It supports development tecnologies like UNIX and Java. The latest Version is Mac OS X Mavericks. If you have a Mac you can update it to the latest operating system (Mac OS X Mavericks) here: http://www.apple.com/es/osx/
Both Mac and Linux are very good at preventing viruses but when you have a Windows it is recommended to have an antivirus program. Both Linux and Windows can be intalled on many different kinds of computers but on the other hand, Mac can only be installed on Apple computers, but in general, Mac works more efficiently and has less glitches (it is more reliable). When regarding price, Linux is the best since it is free and Mac is the most expensive of the three. Finally, when we look at compatibility, Windows is the best since it is what most people have.
-Why do you use the operating system that you use? (3 reasons)
The operating system I have always used is Windows. The first and main reason for this is because I find it very user friendly and not complicated at all to use. The second reason is that since it's the operating system that most people have, the programs on it are all similar and therefore there are less compatibility problems. The third and final reason I use it is because it is easy to install and download programs on it quickly.

My Favorite Song: Tuesday, September 19th, 2013
MY FAVORITE SONG
My favorite song of all time is probably Airplanes by B.o.B feturing Hayley Williams. This is probably because I like the combination of the artists' voices singing together and I find the melody to also be breathtakingly beautiful. You can find the song by clicking on the link below, which will take you to an .mp3 file from my dropbox account.

2013 Summer Vacation
This summer, I went to Rome, Italy at the end of August. I had never been there before. In fact, I'd never been to Italy before so it was a fantastic first impression of the country. Something else that made my trip enjoyable was that I was reading Angels and Demons by Dan Brown while I was there. It is a story about the ancient anti-religious group called the Illuminati. The main character has to solve a mystery in order to save the Vatican and it all takes place in Rome. I was inspired by the book and I concentrated a lot more on the artistic and symbolic details that the city of Rome has to offer. Here is the link to the official page of the book if you want to find out more about it: http://www.danbrown.com/angels-demons/
I went on this trip with my aunt and my cousin and we stayed there for four nights. We mostly saw the popular touristic attractions of the city such as visiting the Colosseum, Vatican, Pantheon, Fontana di Trevi and the catacombs just to mention a few. Overall, I really enjoyed everything but I must say that my absolute favorites were Piazza Navona, Piazza del Popolo and the Vatican. In the Piazzas I mostly liked the atmosphere and exciting mix of tourists, musicians, painters and locals enjoying their free time. In the Vatican I found St. Peter's Basilica breathtakingly beautiful as well as the Sistine Chapel where Conclave (the election of a new pope) is held. The Sistine Chapel ended up being a bit of a surprise to me since I had imagined it being a lot bigger. But the fact that it was smaller only made it easier to absorb all the details and amount of work that went into the paintings. I also liked the Vatican Museums. Here you can find a lot of information on the museums: http://www.museivaticani.va/ My favorite parts of the museums were probably the original classical greek statues and the many paintings by Rafael.
Another fun thing I did was I met up with a friend I had made in July in France when I went on a camp there to learn french. She lives in Rome so I was able to see her. I had a great time and Rome is definetly a city I would love to go back to.

What I have learned about Scribus
What I have learned about Scribus:
In the second trimester of technology class at ASB we have been studying and working with Scribus, the desktop publishing application. I think that this program will be useful in future careers because it can design very professional-looking pages such as magazine or newspaper covers with different kinds of text and images. Before this, I have used Microsoft Publisher which I also find very useful. In the end, that and Scribus work very similarly to do very similar things. Probably the most interesting thing I've learned is how to insert columns into a page, which I didn't know how to do before. I did find it a bit difficult to use at first because I thought it worked just like a word document, but it doesn't. The solution to this for me, was watching tutorials that are on YouTube or any other Internet resource. One thing I love about Scribus is that you can save it as a PDF file which makes it compatible with any computer and also that it makes things look very professional, and most importantly, it's free to download so everyone can use it! I would recommend this program to anyone who wants to make something look professional but with a low budget: it's the perfect resource!http://www.muylinux.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/Scribus_logo.png

Summary of this Term
This term is technology class we were learning about blogging. Bogging is a tool used to post logs on the web. It is a sort of electronic diary or journal that you want to present to the public. The name comes from 1999 when Peter Merholtz shortened the term web-log to blog. A person who blogs is called a blogger and the world of blogging and the community of bloggers are called blogosphere. There are other services for blogging apart from Blogger like MySpace, LiveJournal or Wordpress. To be able to do a blog your computer must have some HTML knowledge.
To edit blogs you must first sign in to your account and go to the dashboard. Then, you must select the blog you want to edit. You can create a new post or by clicking on "posts", select a previous post to continue.
In a blog, you can post images, videos and links. To do so, you must select the different icons and follow the instructions given.
Here is an example of how to insert a link:
To go to my Carrie Underwood page, I will name the link Carrie Underwood and the URL will be the one on the page.:
Carrie Underwood
Unfortunately there is not an option to insert audio in a blog. But you can do this from Dropbox, putting the MP3 document in the Public Folder and then insert the link into the blog.

Desktop Publishing
-The definition of Desktop Publishing is the process of using a computer to display certain information whether it is in text, image, chart or graphic format. Usually it is a combination of these displayed with the help of a specific type of software. It is supposed to be an easy way for anyone to visually communicate something.
-DTP (Desktop Publishing) can be used for various things. One of them is Graphic Design, which is what numerous newspapers and magazines use it for. Another is for helping people find a job. You can set up a creative and attractive portfolio with a desktop publishing program. It is also used in education where teachers can either display information on a spread so students can visually learn the material which is easier for many, or have students present projects in a creative manner using a DTP application. Another use is to sell and make your business public with advertisements and cards put also to publish important documents within the business. Finally, DTP can be used for having fun, displaying personal interests creatively.
-The main elements that make desktop publishing unique are the fonts, image boxes and columns. These tools make it easier for people to display information in a way that looks formal, presentable and professional. A font is a set of characters with it's own style. An image box is an area where you can insert, edit, and cut an image. Columns can flow into and out of each other and it gives text a good look.
-Some programs for DTP are Adome FrameMaker, Adobe InDesign, Corel Ventura, Fatpaint (talked about in class), iStudio Publisher, Microsoft Office Publisher, Pages, Scribus and QuarkXPress and many more. for image processing are Photoshop, Gimp, Delphinus, iMerge etc.
-A spread is two pages facing each other in a layout set for printing. It contains multiple columns, articles and images.
-When you come down to printing your project, it is recommended to save it as a PDF and then print it.
